User Guide for Teacher

Activities are typically used as a way for students to engage with the content and also for assessment purposes. These include discussion forums, assignments, quizzes, etc.

1. Click 'Turn editing on' at the top right of the course home page.

2. Click the "Add an activity or resource” button.

3. Select an activity that you want to use in the pop-up window, and then click the 'Add' button. The activity settings page will be presented.

A brief introduction of all popular activities in iSpace is listed below.

·Assignment ()

The assignment activity module enables a teacher to communicate tasks, collect work and provide grades and feedback.

Students can submit digital content (files) such as Word-processed documents, Spreadsheets, Images, Audio and Video clips, online text, offline activities.

·Quiz ()

The quiz activity enables a teacher to create quizzes comprising questions of various types, including multiple choice, matching, short-answer and numerical.

Quizzes may be used

üAs course exams

üAs mini -tests for reading assignments or at the end of a topic

üAs exam practice, using questions from past exams

·Feedback ()

The feedback activity module enables a teacher to create a custom survey for collecting feedback from participants using a variety of question types, including multiple choices, yes/no or text input.

Feedback activities may be used:

üFor course evaluations, helping to improve the content for later participants

üTo enable participants to sign up for course modules, events etc.

üFor guest surveys of course choices, school policies etc.

üFor anti-bullying surveys in which students can report incidents anonymously.

·Chat ()

The chat activity module enables participants to have text-based, real-time synchronous discussions. Chats are especially useful when the participants are not able to meet face-to-face.

·Choice ()

The choice activity module enables a teacher to ask a single question and offer a selection of possible responses.

üAs a quick poll to stimulate thinking about a topic

üTo quickly test students' understanding

üTo facilitate student decision-making, for example allowing students to vote on the direction of the course

·Forum ()

The forum activity module enables participants to have asynchronous discussions. The teacher can allow files to be attached to forum posts.

Forums have many uses:

üA social space for students to get to know each other

üFor course announcements (using a news forum with forced subscription)

üFor discussing course content or reading materials

üFor online continuation of an issue raised previously in a face-to-face session

üFor teacher-only discussions (using a hidden forum)

üA help center where tutors and students can give advice

üA one-on-one support area for private student-teacher communications (using a forum with separate groups and with one student per group)

üFor extension activities, for example 'brain teasers' for students to ponder and suggest solutions to
